Genie grew up in St. Louis with a father who had once owned a lumber company in New York and a mother who was an artist and interior decorator, so you might say real estate is in her blood. She graduated from Connecticut College, and then with a degree in Counseling from Boston University graduate school—where she learned how to listen to people, negotiate opposing points of view, and help others realize their goals. She also received a certificate in conflict resolution from USM.

Genie has taught elementary school, managed a real estate office in Portsmouth, co-authored a bestselling book on timber framing, owned her own building company, and built houses on speculation.  For more than twelve years, Genie worked for a non-profit organization and then as a consultant accessing federal funds for the construction of affordable housing for very low income elderly and families. In 2006, she opened Sage Hill Real Estate, LLC and brought these skills together to represent buyers and sellers as they move into new phases in life.

She and her husband Mark now live in Portland and spend time with their two adult children, their spouses, and three grandchildren.  She enjoys reading, walking, playing Mah Jongg and watching her grandchildren play sports and perform in local theater.  Genie would love to help you navigate the buying and selling waters as you transition from one home to the next.  She understands the changing needs of today’s families.

The Timber Framing Book, which Genie co-authored with Stewart Elliott under her maiden name, is now in its ninth printing and is considered a classic in the field.
